In our classroom we have a behavior chart, with a magnet for each child with their name on it. I love this chart because it has both a positive side and consequences side. Students are able to move up and down the chart depending on their behaviors throughout the day so they are never “stuck” at one spot. Each day students begin on “Ready to Learn”(green). This is the expected behavior that all students should have everywhere in the school. Students can be recognized for going above and beyond and move up on our chart. There are three levels above Ready to Learn and three below Ready to Learn. The levels above are Good Choices (blue), Great Job(purple) and Super Student(pink). The levels below Ready to Learn are Think About It (yellow, a warning), Teacher's Choice (orange, a discussion during recess with me about the behavior), and then Parent Contact (red and a reflection sheet).
Each day student's ending color is recorded. If a student is at or above Ready to Learn for four weeks straight they are invited to have lunch in the classroom and I bring dessert! It is a simple way to thank students who have demonstrated positive choices in those 4 weeks.
