This school year, we have a new school club called Culture Club. I recently asked Mrs. Kersten some questions about the club. She said that the goal of culture club is to help students approach the local community with cultural humility and passions. She went on to say, “It will hopefully help students recognize the cultures that surround us by spreading awareness, understanding, and appreciation of a particular culture, its people, diversity, and values.” Mrs. Kersten went on to explain, “The original idea with starting the culture club was to incorporate reading books that are about or by authors of different cultures. In addition, we would ideally like speakers to come share about the arts, foods, customs, or habits that characterize a culture.” She shared that this club will meet once a month for the whole school year.
